3.5 has a few foreign object converters, but I didn't see one for
Imagine. However, if you have the Vertex modeler, it can convert
between many formats, including both Imagine and Lightwave. (It also
has some useful attributes of its own right, such as generation of
reasonable trees).
I wonder if cratered surfaces and other landscapes might be easily
created using displacement mapping in Lightwave? I think you can use a
bitmap as a source for displacement mapping. If you had an altitude
bitmap, you could map it to a flat plane and have Layout generate the
displacements for you. I do not know if that would be better or worse
than importing a Vista object.
